Hello Gresham Backers,
As most of you know, Gresham
Area Advancement Association (GAAA) sponsored several meetings with area residents and businesses. The meetings took place
in late Spring and early Summer for the purpose of making Gresham a better place to work, live and play and to entice more
people to visit. To that end, GAAA, with input from the community, decided that one thing we could do at moderate cost is
initiate, promote and implement a quilt program. You have probably noticed an 8x8 foot quilt square on both the TownMart and
the Pioneer Restaurant.
Last week about 20 more squares
- 2x2, 4x4 and 8x8 foot - were cut and primed to be ready for the July 24 "Quilting Bee" that was held at Bisley
Fabrication, where we had great facilities for the project. We had a good turn out of volunteers and almost completed the
first coat of paint on all the squares.
On Wednesday
evening, July 28, the quilters gathered again for the 2nd coat.
Soon after GAAA announced our quilt program we learned the Shawano County is going to do something similar that will
be county wide, however they will be using barns for their panels. Marketing wise, we will be able to dovetail into their
marketing plans. It's a win, win situation for Gresham.
Another
batch of "quilts" is planned for sometime this fall or after the holidays.
You can "commission" a quilt of your own or one for a local building or barn. You can also be involved
in the design stage and choose the color scheme.
