We are the Red Lakes District. We are a unit of government with
131 property owners in our district. The district is the unit of government that is dedicated to the improving and preserving
the environment of the upper and lower red lakes. The district is managed by a board of commissioners that are elected by
the district membership. The district is financed by property special assessment on the district property owners annually.
We have recently completed a Red Lakes Comprehensive Management Plan with grant monies from the Wisconsin
water way commission. At this time we are implementing this plan as our major focus area. Lake weed harvesting is our
major activity because it keeps the lakes accessible for recreation activity during summer months. With the help of a Wisconsin
Water Way grant and CIP grant from Shawano county we are purchasing a new aquatic weed harvester this year. This will provide
reliable weed harvesting and improved operating efficiency for the district over the next 10-12 years.
